Once again it is February and chances are you might be trying to find a good book written by a black author. If you’re anything like me, you probably don’t like reading what everyone is reading. You enjoy the hidden gems, the ‘off beat’ or ‘off the beaten path’ books, maybe even those whose hype has faded. Okay, so I’ve read The Book of Night Women (rough read but good), The Sister’s and Manco’s Stories (the details haven’t stuck with me but I think I liked it for the most part, especially the title story), YaYa Surfeit (liked this), Considering Venus (good one), the Selvons (both, I think)…none in February though, does that count? Meanwhile both Evaristos, everything Butler, and Hodge have been on my to-read lists for a while…have read another of Nalo’s books (and would read another) and been entertained by Winkler in the past…
